This hike is challenging but the switchbacks make it a steady and gradual climb. You will enjoy the view of the Bow River Valley and Town of Banff from the viewpoint platform.

We will stop for lunch in the interpretative centre. There are washroom facilities here as well. After lunch, we can decide if we want to climb another 0.5km to the Sanson Peak/Cosmic Ray Station before we descend down the trail.

This trip is best suited to fit hikers. There may be snow/ice on the trail so please bring microspikes.

Event Directions:Take Hwy 1, (Trans Canada Hwy) west to Banff National Park. Take the Banff, Lake Minnewanka exit and turn left at the stop sign onto Banff Ave. Follow Banff Ave thru town and across Bow River Bridge. At “T” intersection after the bridge, turn left. After a few hundred metres around a bend, to the right is a fork in the road, bear right onto Mountain Ave (Look for a sign that points you towards the Banff Upper Hot Springs). After about 5 minutes you’ll see the Rim Rock Hotel on your left, keep going for a hundred metres bearing right until you come to a small traffic circle which is in front of the parking lot of the Banff Upper Hot Springs.
