A break in the weather is on it's way - time to get out and hike again! A note for past regulars: I'll be coordinating the hike on Wednesday evenings (mostly) until mid-March to accommodate another volunteer commitment I have. I'll switch back to the regular Thursday night once that is done.

Fullerton Loop is an easy hike that provides excellent views of the Elbow Valley and nearby foothills - during a full moon or during daytime hikes. :) The plan is to undertake this hike at a relaxed, but moderate pace. We will stop to catch our breath when needed and enjoy the views. Please note that we will be beginning in the dark and using headlamps to be able to see the trail. Even with the snow, it can be quite dark, and for safety reasons, everyone must bring a light.

You are welcome to bring your dog if they are used to hiking at a moderate, steady pace with a group and can respect the personal space of other dogs and people - please bring a light for your dog too!:)

We will be hiking the loop clockwise, therefore going UP the steep side and down the more moderate section. Be prepared to wear icers / traction devices, as there is some ice build up in the shaded areas already. The event will go ahead as planned unless there is a heavy rainfall warning for the area, dangerous road conditions or cold weather temperatures below -25c (including wind chill).

Required Items to Bring:
hiking boots / trail shoes with good tread
icers / traction for your feet
water
bear spray (still a good idea in winter)
headlamp and spare batteries
appropriate clothing (no cotton please!)
Kananaskis Conservation Pass
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
hiking poles
hat / toque and or gloves
dry shirt for the downhill or car
snacks

How to Get There:
Event Directions:NOTE: As of June 1, 2021, you will need a Kananaskis Conservation Pass to attend this event. Please see the Alberta Parks website for more information: Kananaskis Conservation Pass

Follow the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) to Highway 22, follow Highway 22 south through Bragg Creek, turning left at the 4-way stop. At the Highway 66 Junction, turn right and follow Highway 66. The parking area is on the right, across from the Allen Bill Day Use area - you'll see the signs after you cross the Elbow River bridge. We will meet in the parking area near the cars at 6 p.m., ready to hike. I'll have a green daypack.

If you are running late, please text before you start driving. If you arrive after we've left, please do not attempt to hike out alone to catch up with us.
