Failure to follow the guidelines could result in you being evicted from the event even after it has commenced. Your coordinator has this discretion and you could be reported to the club if you create problems. The COC is attempting to keep all members safe and asks for your respect during these difficult times. If you do not wish to follow these temporary restrictions you should not sign up but are welcome to continue after the restrictions have been removed.

Distance: 7 km return
Elevation Gain: 810m
Pace: SLOW, with many stops (as needed).

Have you been working to build your fitness this summer? This trip is ideal for those who have been doing a lot of walking, hill training and working to improve their overall fitness this summer and who want to challenge themselves with what will feel like a 2.5 - 3 hour stair climb. Your coordinator has not done the 'new and improved' Ha Ling trail and is looking forward to seeing the changes!

Our pace will be slow with many stops, but you must still have a good level of fitness to join us so that you don't injure yourself - and so you aren't totally miserable. ;) This is not a suitable hike for beginners. If you are a fast, fit hiker who prefers to head straight up and run down, this probably isn't the hike for you unless you are looking for a VERY relaxed outing. Members must be prepared to stop and wait patiently with the group - we are not going to rush.

Bring a camera and enjoy the views as we go, and don't be in a hurry to turn around and go down. We are aiming for an early start to avoid crowds and because at the time of posting there is a forecast for afternoon T- storms. Our goal is to be on our way down before noon.

The event is to hike the maintained portion of the trail only. Those who wish to add on the additional 100m elevation and 400m distance (scramble) to the actual summit for views of Canmore may do so during our lunch stop, but this will be an optional extension.

Due to COVID 19, there is no official carpool for this event. Note: Travel time from downtown Calgary: ~1hr25min I would recommend leaving Calgary by 6:50 a.m. to allow for time to get ready at the trailhead for our 8:30 a.m.

Please keep in mind while it might be quite comfortable down around the the tree line, expect strong windy conditions at the top. Please pack accordingly.

Note: This hike / scramble is not recommended for members who have not done any hikes with moderate (400 - 600m) elevation this summer or some very regular stair training. There is a lot of elevation gained in a very short distance, therefore you should be in good shape for this hike / scramble.
