Distance: 6km
Elevation Gain: 814m
Pace: relaxed but steady with brief stops as needed.
Register only if: you have experience with the above stated elevation/distance, are not on a timetable and understand the plan is to spend minimum 1 hour for lunch at the summit!

Due to COVID 19 there is no official carpool for this event. If you are in need of a ride feel free to contact me and we may be able to work something out.

Ha Ling is the impressive pinnacle that rises above Canmore to the southwest. The trail winds up the backside of the mountain & ends up with stunning views across the Bow Valley. It officially reopened last summer after being completely shut down for 12 months while Parks Canada completed some much needed improvements to the very busy route. I'm really looking forward to experiencing the new look.

The best way to describe Ha Ling Peak: it is a very steep hike that may require use of your hands on the final approach to the summit. It is definitely NOT suitable for beginners!

Please keep in mind while it might be quite comfortable down around the the tree line, expect strong windy conditions at the top. Pack accordingly.

Note: This hike/scramble is not recommended for members who have not previously done hikes with 800M+ elevation. There is a lot of elevation gained in a very short distance therefore you should be in good shape for this hike/scramble.

Required Items to Bring:
-Breathable quick dry hiking attire
-Jacket/wind breaker
-Rain gear
-Plenty of water
-Hat/Sunscreen (highly recommended)
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
- It would be a good idea to bring a fleece and/or shell & hat. At the top it can get quite cool and windy.
-Hiking poles
-First aid kit
-Bear spray/whistle
-Bug spray

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Head west out of Calgary on Trans Canada exiting onto Three Sisters Parkway (route 742) just east of Canmore. Follow the signs to the Nordic Centre but continue on the parkway (route 742) a.k.a. smith dorrien spray trail) as it turns into a gravel road. Within a few minutes you will wind past the reservoir and see the large Goat Creek parking lot below on your right. Park there.
