Hike Description
Let’s keep the momentum going on the long distance hikes while we still have many daylight hours to fill. A hike off the Icefield Parkway to North Molar Pass will fit that bill. The initial six or so kilometers of this hike will be gently ascending along the rocky & rooty Mosquito Creek Trail. We then emerge out onto the massive molar meadow where we will witness three kilometers of subalpine meadow wilderness in a huge amphitheatre of rocky peaks and talus slopes. We’ll pass by Mosquito Lake, enjoy some easy rock hopping over the creek and hopefully the wildflowers will still be in their glory. We’ll reach the end of the meadow then conquer the stiff climb over a rocky trail to our high point of the day at 2590 meters, which is our destination of North Molar Pass and our lunch spot. North Molar Pass is the third highest pass accessible by trail in Banff National Park. Upon our return we may find an area of the large meadow or its surroundings to explore, which will add on additional distance and elevation gain to what is posted above. Bring your energizer bunny fitness level, aka your “A-Game” and share in the beauty that’s too much for my eyes only.
