Itinerary: | |||||||
Distance: Approx. 21 kms Elevation Gain: 300 m This is a great hike in Yoho National Park. We will see five water falls along the way, a glacier, a mountain lake and walk through a boulder field. The waterfalls in order are: Angel's Staircase, Point Lace Falls, Laughing Falls, Twin Falls and for the grand finale – Takakkaw Falls. The trail is 8.5 km to Twin Falls (one way). The first 6.9 km of the trail to Twin Falls is relatively flat, and the last 1.6 km is a steady but moderate climb. If permissible, we will return via the Marpole Connector (3.3 km) and the Little Yoho Valley Trail (1.5 km), adding an extra 2.6 km to the hike but adding a nice walk along Marpole Lake and then over a massive rockslide, making for lots of high-stepping, up and down on boulders. If the Marpole Connector trail is not permissible due to avalanche debris on the trail, we will return the same way we came up to the Twin Falls, making the days mileage come in around 18 km. The grand finale will be to walk 500 meters from the carpark location to view the Takakkaw Falls. With a free fall of 254 m, these falls are the third highest in Canada. You will not want to forget your camera for this hike! Please Note: if you are looking for a fast paced event or are in a rush to get back to Calgary, this is not the event for you. We do not expect to return to Calgary before 8:00 pm. Ref: Gem Trek Hiking Map and Guide 8th Edition, HikeAlberta.com/forum/twin-falls | |||||||
