Distance: 15km Loop (+1.4km option to lookout)
Elevation Gain: 500m (+125m option to lookout)
Pace: Relaxed yet steady

We will hike from the parking lot via Prairie View Trail to McConnell Ridge. From there, those who wish to continue on to the Lookout may do so while the rest of us relax, eat lunch and enjoy the view from the ridge. We will regroup approximately 1 hour later to begin our decent via Jewel Pass.

The stated hiking time is an estimate only, we are out to enjoy the day and will definitely not be in a rush. If you have concerns about being back in the city by a certain time please refrain from registering. When in doubt, don't come out!

It is my intention to arrive at Smitty's Restaurant at 8:00 am for breakfast where COC members receive 25% off of their food bill. If you would like to join me, please let me know in your sign-up comments.

Required Items to Bring:
- Hiking shoes/boots
- Appropriate attire including breathable quick dry fabric, wind breaker, rain gear (avoid cotton, jeans etc)
- Lots of water (2L recommended)
- Lunch/snacks
- Car Pool $$
- Bag for dirty boots

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Take Hwy 1 west to Kananaskis Trail (Highway 40). Head south on Hwy 40 just past the Barrier Lake Vistor Centre and watch for the Barrier Dam Day Use area. Park here.

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $60.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.30, effective Friday, April 19, 2024). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
