Write Up:This event was posted with just a few hours notice, so it was great to get a group together quite
last minute. We started the loop with some remaining daylight, and dusk set in as we were
about 1/3 through. At the halfway bench we had a lengthy break (35 minutes), enjoying snacks,
tea, and stargazing. The sky was so clear that just more and more stars appeared, including a
shooting star. Quite magical to be out there in the dark, the quiet, away from the wicked wind in
the city these past two days. On the way back we stopped at the creek, in awe of the water
babbling. The last kilometre was easy, but all of a sudden we noticed a couple of pairs of eyes
in our headlamps. They didn’t move, for a few seconds we wondered what was watching us, but
thankfully it was only a couple of deer. It was amazing to see what different things we notice in
the dark - the creaking of trees, coyotes or ducks far off in the distance, the sound of the water,
our footsteps, and the texture of trees. Thanks for a nice evening walk outside of the city.
