Sat, Mar 18 2017 - Snowshoe to Chester Lake and Elephant Rocks (View Original Event Details)
|
Despite some confusion with the avalanche warnings and the forecasted rain, we headed out to Peter Loughheed Visitor Centre intent on snowshoeing to Chester Lake. Because of the Extreme / High avalanche conditions in the Kananaskis area, we had already decided not to go up to the Elephant Rocks. We resolved the avalanche warnings confusion by speaking with Chelsea at the Peter Lougheed Visitor Centre… Chester Lake was good to go :-) AND, as we got closer to the Chester Lake parking lot, the rain turned to snow. Sure glad we went!
Wow, what an amazing day we had!! With temperatures around +1, the snow was wet and sticky… lots of ammo for snowball fighting. We shared lots of laughs and some great scenery.
Thanks to Catherine, Wendy & Lee for coming out! Looking forward to more mountain adventures soon!!
